JJ Harned passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2008 (he was 81 years old). He had been in failing health for over a year, but started getting progressively worse in late September. Although the doctors thought he had about six months, God had other plans for him. JJ's Daughter and wife (Candy) were holding his hand and talking to him when he took his last breath. As you can imagine, this has been very hard on my Mom, losing her husband of 61 years. He was a beautiful man, and we were very fortunate to have him in our life. We had a small military funeral for him. Two Navy Commanders were there to fold and present the flag to my Mom, and the Army National Guard was there to play "Taps" and do the rifle volley. It was a beautiful ceremony. He was buried on Nov 4 in the Military Court of Honor at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, CA.

My name is Robert Mitchell, a Sub Vet who served aboard USS Blueback SS581 from 1968-71. Years ago at a flea market I picked up some items from the submarine USS Wahoo SS565. One item was a binder filled with 150 official photo's of the interior of USS Wahoo SS 565 stamped Philadelphia Naval Shipyard Photography Laboratory dated July to Aug 1978. I recently found you web site and thought you might be interested in posting pictures of the interior. Take Care Mitch

On Friday, members of the sub's namesake — the Cold War-era USS Wahoo — honored their predecessors in a ceremony at Patriots Point. "It had a brilliant war record," retired Vice Adm. Albert J. Baciocco Jr. said. "It was a distinguished ship with a distinguished crew."
